Handbook of Health Economics, Volume 1A

The Handbook of Health Economics provide an up-to-date survey of the burgeoning literature in health economics. As a relatively recent subdiscipline of economics, health economics has been remarkably successful. It has made or stimulated numerous contributions to various areas of the main discipline: the theory of human capital; the economics of insurance; principal-agent theory; asymmetric information; econometrics; the theory of incomplete markets; and the foundations of welfare economics, among others. Perhaps it has had an even greater effect outside the field of economics, introducing terms such as opportunity cost, elasticity, the margin, and the production function into medical parlance. Indeed, health economists are likely to be as heavily cited in the clinical as in the economics literature. Partly because of the large share of public resources that health care commands in almost every developed country, health policy is often a contentious and visible issue; elections have sometimes turned on issues of health policy. Showing the versatility of economic theory, health economics and health economists have usually been part of policy debates, despite the vast differences in medical care institutions across countries. The publication of the first Handbook of Health Economics marks another step in the evolution of health economics. ...

Most people think economics is a technical, confusing, and even mysterious subject. It’s a fi eld best left to the experts: namely, the economists. But in reality, economics should be quite straightforward. After all, economics is simply about how we work. What we produce. And how we distribute and ultimately use what we’ve produced. Economics is about who does what, who gets what, and what they do with it. At that simplest, grass-roots level, we all know something about the economy. And so we should all have something to say about economics. Moreover, because we interact, cooperate, and clash with each other in the economy (even Robinson Crusoe didn’t work alone – he had Friday around to help), economics is a social subject. It’s not just technical, concrete forces like technology and productivity that matter. It’s also the interactions and relationships between people that make the economy go around.

An Introduction to Mathematics for Economics

Akihito Asano, "An Introduction to Mathematics for Economics"
English | ISBN: 0521189462, 1107007607 | 2013 | PDF | 281 pages | 3 MB

An Introduction to Mathematics for Economics introduces quantitative methods to students of economics and finance in a succinct and accessible style. The introductory nature of this textbook means a background in economics is not essential, as it aims to help students appreciate that learning mathematics is relevant to their overall understanding of the subject. Economic and financial applications are explained in detail before students learn how mathematics can be used, enabling students to learn how to put mathematics into practice.

The New World of Economics: A Remake of a Classic for New Generations of Economics Students, 6th Edition

Richard B. McKenzie, Gordon Tullock, "The New World of Economics: A Remake of a Classic for New Generations of Economics Students, 6th ed"
2012 | ISBN-10: 3642273637 | 577 pages | PDF | 4,4 MB

The New World of Economics, 6th edition, by Richard McKenzie and Gordon Tullock, represents a revival of a classic text that, when it was first published, changed substantially the way economics would be taught at the introductory and advanced levels of economics for all time. In a very real sense, many contemporary general-audience economics books that seek to apply the “economic way of thinking” to an unbounded array of social issues have grown out of the disciplinary tradition established by earlier editions of The New World of Economics.

Terms of Trade: Glossary of International Economics by Alan V. Deardoff
World Scientific Publishing Company | 2006 | ISBN: 9812566287 | Pages: 396 | PDF | Size: 14,8 MB

Have you ever wondered what a term in international economics means? This useful reference book offers a glossary of terms in both international trade and international finance, with emphasis on economic issues. It is intended for students getting their first exposure to international economics, although advanced students will also find it useful for some of the more obscure terms that they have forgotten or never encountered. Besides an extensive glossary of terms, there is a picture gallery of diagrams used to explain key concepts such as the Edgeworth Production Box and the Offer Curve Diagram in international economics. This section is followed by several lists of terms that occur a lot in international economics, grouped by subject to help users find terms that they cannot recall. Prior to the bibliography is a section on the origins of terms in international economics which records what the author has been able to learn about the origins of some of the terms used in international economics. This is a must-have portable glossary in international trade and international economics!
