Physical, chemical and biological aspects of marine science are dealt with by experts actively engaged in their own field. The series is an essential reference text for research workers and students in all fields of marine science and related subjects, and is consistently among the highest ranking impact factors for the marine biology category of the citation indices compiled by the Institute for Scientific Education.

This book contains full papers of both oral and poster presentations of the international symposium 'Marine Bioprocess Engineering' which was held in Noordwijkerhout, The Netherlands, 1998. The symposium focused on the bioprocessing of marine natural products. Bioprocess engineering has been the key to success in the commercialization of biotechnology, especially with respect to biopharmaceuticals. In marine biotechnology, both new and existing biotechnological techniques are developed an applied to organisms from marine sources. For marine biotechnology, bioprocess engineering represents the link between discovery and commercialization. The diversity of marine life points to a myriad of new bioproducts waiting to be discovered and developed commercially.

The ever increasing interest in work in oceanography and marine biology and its relevance to global environmental issues creates a demand for authoritative reviews summarising the results of recent research.Oceanography and Marine Biology: an Annual Review has catered for this demand since its foundation, by the late Harold Barnes, more than 35 years ago. Its objectives are to consider, annually, basic areas of marine research, returning to them when appropriate in future volumes; to deal with subjects of special and topical importance; and to add new ones as they arise.
The favourable reception accorded to all the volumes shows that the series is fulfilling a very real need: both reviews and sales have been gratifying. The series is an essential reference text for research workers and students in all fields of marine science and related subjects, and finds a place in not only the libraries of marine stations and institutes but also universities. It is consistently among the highest ranking impact factors for the marine biology category of the citation indices compiled by the Institute for Scientific Education.

The Marine Corps Martial Arts Program is a combat system developed by the United States Marine Corps to combine existing and new hand-to-hand and close quarters combat (CQC) techniques with morale and team-building functions and instruction in what the Marine Corps calls the "Warrior Ethos". The program, which began in 2001, trains Marines (and U.S. Navy personnel attached to Marine Units) in unarmed combat, edged weapons, weapons of opportunity, and rifle and bayonet techniques. It also stresses mental and character development, including the responsible use of force, leadership, and teamwork. The MCMAP has several nicknames, including semper fu (a play on the Marine Corps motto semper fi and kung fu), MCSlap, MCNinja and new Bushido.

Hosts Bill Duff and Jason Chambers travel to Quantico, Virginia to get a painful lesson in the martial art that has helped create the Marines widely feared reputation, the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program. The Marine Corps Martial Arts Program or MCMAP is the martial art developed by the United States Marine Corps to combine hand to hand and weapon based combat with a basis of morale and team building functions. The MCMAP was created in 2001 to train Marines and US Navy personnel who were assigned to Marine Units to fight in unarmed combat as well as specific armed situations with a rifle or bayonet but it also teaches how to fight in weapons of opportunity situations which means whatever you find to fight with, use it! The MCMAP uses over 180 deadly moves derived from ancient martial arts all around the world which Bill and Jason will need to learn before they take the Human Weapon challenge of the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program.
