If the extensive six-CD box set Rare Cult wasn't enough, Beggars Banquet followed it up with this obsessive item to end all obsessive items for Cult fans: a five-CD collection detailing all available demo sessions done by the band between 1986 and 1991. Clearly this was aimed only at those completely dedicated enough to want absolutely everything; being no fools, Beggars released it in a limited edition of 3000, sold by mail order only through its website. Packaged to resemble the earlier set, Rare Cult: The Demo Sessions makes for well over six hours of Ian Astbury, Billy Duffy, and various drummers and bassists working through songs and fragmentary jams. There's a number of songs on the earlier set that reappear here in their original context, but not so many as to make this a duplicated rip-off, thankfully. Perhaps the most enjoyable thing about the various sessions is hearing how the normally heavily and precisely produced band -- even in its Electric days with Rick Rubin -- sounds in a truly raw context, unadorned and exploratory. The Astbury/Duffy partnership has a charge even then -- if Astbury's singing is clearly rough and mostly there just to fill out the corners at points, he's usually hurling himself with gusto into the proceedings, while Duffy riffs, cranks, and roars just as one would expect him to do. On a fan level, the most interesting recordings might be the "jam" demos from 1989, eight songs' worth that feature the last efforts of original bassist Jamie Stewart in tandem, along with the only studio drum work of Matt Sorum with the Cult until the band's revival in the new millennium. The most flat-out exhaustive are for the Sonic Temple sessions, however -- two and an half hours' worth of takes and tentative efforts.

The "Rare Cult Boxset" was released in November 2000. Only 15,000 copies were produced, with the first 5,000 copies including a bonus disc of remixes. The "The best of Rare Cult" CD includes 5 tracks/versions that are not included on this boxset. This limited edition box set contains the full, unreleased Peace album, outtakes, demos and rare mixes. A total of 48 never before heard songs were included in this 90 song box set. The box also includes an 80-page booklet that details the sessions and gives background to the recordings and includes rare photos.
No artwork is included because it's all white typography on black background with no additional info. The booklet is unscannable, unless i had cut out all the pages. It's a shame, because all the detailed info is in there. If someone has a scanned version, please upload it and let me know the link. I will put it in the info of this torrent. Anyway, this 7-CD boxset was a promise I made to upload last year. Sorry it took so long :) Happy easter! :)

A television series is tagged with the label "cult" by the media, advertisers, and network executives when it is considered edgy or offbeat, when it appeals to nostalgia, or when it is considered emblematic of a particular subculture. By these criteria, almost any series could be described as cult. Yet certain programs exert an uncanny power over their fans, encouraging them to immerse themselves within a fictional world. In Cult Television leading scholars examine such shows as The X-Files; The Avengers; Doctor Who, Babylon Five; Star Trek; Xena, Warrior Princess; and Buffy the Vampire Slayer to determine the defining characteristics of cult television and map the contours of this phenomenon within the larger scope of popular culture....

First of all, in response to those reviewers who argue that "all religions practice mind control" and "Hassan is against freedom of religion," I would like to point out that Hassan states very plainly that just because a group is not mainstream does not make it a cult. He provides very detailed, specific criteria as to what makes a cult (including deception, attempts to isolate people from their friends and family, refusal to let members leave, and pronounced control of information), and also includes a handy checklist of questions to ask potential cult recruiters, including "Does your group practice deception?" "Is your group considered controversial and if so, why?" and "Tell me three things you don't like about your group and your leader." As Hassan states, legitimate organizations will be honest about their motives, and members of legitimate organizations should be able to discuss their group's failings as well as its strengths. Hassan is not out to demonize religion in general, nor (as he states) are all cults necessarily religious in nature.
